“There is a fountain of youth: It is your mind, your talents, the creativity you bring to your life and the lives of people you love. When you learn to tap this source, you will truly have defeated age.” — Sophia Loren
I like to say ” being 50 something is like being a teenager, except now we have our own house, money, no curfew, and can’t get pregnant!”
What gets better with age? Happiness! The happiness possible in our 50’s is on a different level, and similar to that of our 20’s( can you say, no worries) Happiness actually follows a “u-shape” many experience a slump in happiness their 30’s and 40’s. Why? Perhaps, kid’s, work, and status are the focus, who has time to worry about their own happiness? We have been there, done that, it’s time to “pop the cork” and live, laugh, dance, love and Don’t worry, be happy!
What else gets better? We can create our dream life! How about a new career ? It’s never too late to follow your dreams. What did you want to be when you grew up, go do it! Travel, go now, the world is waiting for you! Do you want to write? Play a musical instrument? You can volunteer ,it not only gives to others, it feeds your soul. Take up golf, or pickle ball to stay active, and meet other active people aging like fine wine.New opportunities and experiences keep us learning, creative, relevant , interested, interesting and feeling valuable to yourself, your family and your community. It’s time to do what you love!
What is the BEST part of aging? A growing family. I’ve added a daughter-in-law and 2 grandchildren! Grandchildren are gods way of rewarding you for motherhood ( or letting your kids survive)! I love that I have the time and perspective to soak up every minute with them and be fully present. I have the wisdom to know that crawling on the floor and playing peek-a-boo is the #1 priority, dishes can wait!I LOVE seeing the world through a young person’s eyes, and experience the wonder of a the old world looking new! We can also play and be silly , go down the slide, swing on the swing, color, re- live our childhood. And don’t forget, we can spoil them rotten, and “get even” with our darling children .
We aren’t getting older, we are aging like fine wine,So drink up and live it up!!
